The Declaration of Independence and The United States Constitution are two of the most iconic symbols of The United States of America. They are the core of what America is. The Declaration of Independence announced that we were a free and independent nation and defines our core philosophy while The Constitution lays down the supreme law of our land and how our Government was to be formed. Every Fourth of July, we celebrate the birth of our nation with barbecues and fireworks. When laws are passed that are incompatible with our Constitution, we take it to court to have that law repealed, declaring the law "Unconstitutional".
Yet, throughout our nation's history, we as individuals struggle to have our self evident truths and certain unalienable rights recognized. Throughout American history African Americans have had to fight twice for equality, and women have had to fight not only for their right to work, but to work in a harassment free environment for equal pay.
These struggles continue to this day with homosexuals, Latinos and the poor. They are constantly discriminated against and have to fight for their right to have an equal footing in this nation. Among these examples are:
-Defense of Marriage Act
-Don't Ask Don't Tell
-California's Proposition 8
-Arizona's sb1070
-US Supreme Court Decision of Citizens United v. FEC
All of these are laws designed to discriminate against certain groups and hide behind either legal or moral grounds that are incompatible with the philosophy of the Declaration of Independence. People fighting against these laws invoke it's famous words "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Yet it is often ignored.
The problem is that our founding document, The Declaration of Independence, is not a legal document. There are many court documents that address the issue, one quoted as such, "We have no jurisdiction over claims allegedly arising under the Declaration of Independence." rendering the argument powerless.
This must change.
The United States Constitution cannot abandon the principals of our self evident truths. Today, a corporation has more legal rights than an individual. The concept of this right is supposedly protected by The Constitution, yet with the recent oil spill and coal mining disaster, it's obvious that there is something fundamentally wrong with putting corporate rights above individual rights.
In light of this I suggest we work to add a new amendment to the United States Constitution: One that encompasses the ideas of the Declaration of Independence, that all people are created equal, and reinserts the individual's power over not only The Government, but the corporations who for years have used The Government to trample over the people.
It's up to us to keep the American Dream alive for all, let us do it for our future.

To Mr. Bryan Fischer of the AFA: Bullshit...
I’d like to direct your attention to this video and then this blog… I’ll wait til you’re done.

Bryan Fischer is literally claiming that the entire Nazi party, including Adolf Hitler, was gay; and part of a vast conspiracy of hiding it, which was the main cause of the Holocaust. He then accuses Congress of not learning from this history in it’s attempt to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”.
I’m officially calling Bullshit.
First off, he defends his position by citing two books, one published in 2001 called “Hitler’s Secret: the Double Life of a Dictator” and one from 1995 called “The Pink Swastika” Here's the Book ( http://www.defendthefamily.com/pfrc/books/pinkswastika/html/the_pinkswastika_4th_edition_-_final.htm ), If you don't want to read the whole thing, Here is the wiki page for it, notice the book also claims eight of the top ten serial killers in the US were homosexuals. "There is a lot of evidence like diaries, letters, and files, but the strongest evidence comes from two sources that have never been analyzed before. And they are the so-called Mend protocol, some kind of testimony of a former war comrade of Hitler, and the memoirs of Eugen Dollman, who was a very influential collaborator of Himmler and in personal touch with Hitler, as an interpreter." Mr. Fischer goes on for the next 2 and a half pages, spitting out this conspiracy theory and claiming that this is a secret homosexual activists don’t what you to know.
So here’s my question: After decades of discrimination which go on to this day with DADT and the Defense of Marriage Act, how come this wasn’t well known information? WWII ended 65 years ago and since then we’ve been studying the causes of these wars in hopes of preventing it from ever happening again. How come we all think that The Holocaust and WWII was caused by Nationalism, bigotry, Europe’s initial appeasement to Nazi Germany once they began to grow, rather than a bunch of closet homosexuals?
I’ll tell you why, because the latter is Bullshit.
I also love this quote from Mr. Fischer, “Nazi Germany became the horror that is was because it rejected both Christianity and it’s clear teaching about human sexuality.” Completely disregarding the fact that Hitler was a Christian:

And do I really need to point out the Bullshit about pedophilia being a homosexual problem, rather than a problem of The Catholic Church requiring celibacy from their priests and then leaving them alone with little kids, and not prosecuting them when accusations arise? I believe the Pope still has some explaining to do.
If Mr. Fischer was truly realistic about learning from the past, he would address how discrimination has affected the world. He would look to the lessons of The Civil War or The Civil Rights Movement. He would ask himself, ‘Why did our founding fathers decide not to impose a national religion?’ He would look back and read about the horrors of persecution, rapes, beatings, lynching, ethnic cleansing, wars, slavery, and genocide, all in the name of intolerance. More importantly, he would say that these are the real mistakes that no sane culture should ever make again.
Mr. Fischer’s willful ignorance of these FACTS and lack of credible evidence (which I was able to discredit via Google?!?!) is why my official response to his accusation that Homosexuality gave us Adolf Hitler and the Nazis, is “Bullshit”.
